Annie is an illustrator and designer living near Stamford, Lincolnshire. She works with a variety of medium from linocut and screenprinting to digital painting. Her work is inspired by plant and wildlife, she is often out and about with binoculars, camera and a sketchbook to capture flowers, creatures and natural forms being based near a wildflower meadow and woodland reserve. This provides a good source of material to combine in her illustrations and print compositions.
Annie trained in Art and Design at degree level, and went on to work in publishing. Spending 18 years in the book and magazine industry gave her a good discipline and design habit, and an ability to handle tight deadlines. After a move to rural Northamptonshire, she returned to printmaking, finally moving to Lincolnshire a few years ago. Annie produces her silkscreen prints and linocut prints by hand using a Tofko Studium Relief press at home, and visits a specialist studio in Leicester to use their equipment. She illustrates for clients using different media from pen and ink to digital painting.
Each project begins with much drawing, sketching and planning before deciding which process to use for the final job. Colour layers are worked out beforehand, she loves the detail and mark-making involved in each process. Commissions have ranged from map artwork and packaging illustration through to branding and pattern design.
